Communiqué à l’attention des éditeurs en chef
Depuis maintenant 2 ans, l’IHU Méditerranée Infection et ses chercheurs sont la cible d’un cyber harcèlement organisé à travers la plateforme PUBPEER.
Cette campagne de cyber-harcèlement vise à inciter les journaux scientifiques à rétracter les articles scientifiques de l’IHU Méditerranée Infection pour nuire à son image.
Sur les quelques 6,000 articles scientifiques publiés par l’IHU Méditerranée Infection un seul a été rétracté depuis deux ans[1], article où l’IHU n’était d’ailleurs cité qu’à titre de partenaire.
A l’opposé, l’IHU Méditerranée Infection s’est confirmé être un centre référence mondial, abritant en son sein 9 Highly Cited Researchers en 2021 sur les 86 Français dans le domaine des sciences de la vie, ce qui contribue grandement au rayonnement à l’international d’Aix-Marseille Université via le classement de Shanghai.
L’IHU est aussi le centre en France ayant le plus publié sur le COVID-19 (pas moins de 448 articles sont référencés sur PubMed actuellement).
Néanmoins afin de mettre fin à ce harcèlement caractérisé par au moins 370 articles commentés sur PUBPEER, souvent de manière anonyme, dans la majorité des cas au sujet d’interprétations des aspects éthiques de la recherche et dans des termes parfois diffamatoires, en accusant par exemple l’IHU de mener une science néo-colonialiste, la Fondation IHU Méditerranée Infection a porté plainte contre le dirigeant de la plateforme PUBPEER, Monsieur Boris BARBOUR, ainsi qu’un des auteurs identifiés, Madame Elisabeth BIK.
Cette décision de dépôt de plainte a été votée lors du dernier conseil d’administration de la Fondation en présence entre autres du Doyen de la Faculté de Médecine, du Président de l’Université ainsi que du Directeur Général de l’AP-HM.

Statement for the attention of the editors-in-chief
For 2 years now, IHU Méditerranée Infection and its researchers have been the target of cyber harassment organized through the PUBPEER platform.
This cyber-harassment campaign aims to incite scientific journals to retract scientific articles from IHU Méditerranée Infection to harm its image.
Of the approximately 6,000 scientific articles published by IHU Méditerranée Infection, only one has been retracted during the past two years, an article in which the IHU was only cited as a partner.
On the other hand, IHU Méditerranée Infection has confirmed itself as a world reference center, hosting within it 9 Highly Cited Researchers in 2021 out of the 86 French people in the field of life sciences, which greatly contributes to the international fame of Aix-Marseille University through Shanghai ranking.
The IHU is also the center in France that has published the most on COVID-19 during the past two years (no less than 448 articles are currently referenced on PubMed).
Nevertheless, in order to put an end to this harassment characterized by at least 370 commented articles on PUBPEER, often anonymously, in the majority of cases about misinterpretations of ethical aspects of research and sometimes in defamatory terms, accusing for example the IHU to carry out a neo-colonialist science, Foundation IHU Méditerranée Infection filed a complaint against the leader of the PUBPEER platform, Mr. Boris BARBOUR, as well as one of the identified authors, Mrs. Elisabeth BIK.
This decision to file a complaint was voted on during the last Board of Directors of the Foundation in the presence, among others, of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, the President of the University as well as the General Director of University Hospital.
